Re: A few from the garden

Very nice - especially the second! I have sadly missed the summer insect season really - got one or two shots, but nothing I'm really happy with - just been too physically unable to use the macro lens!

That second really is fab!

Re: A few from the garden

Thanks guys!
As I had such a shallow DOF, for each nice one I probablly took at least 100 hundred OOF ones!

Re: A few from the garden

Ok...I'm gonna be the bad guy here.

At first glance, both images look lovely, but after a second or two, the first picture started to jar with me.
I think the bee has been lightened / sharpened too much compared with the rest of the shot, and it really does stand out for all the wrong reasons, at least on my monitor, which is crystal clear and shows up many many flaws that others might not see.

In the second image, it appears that you've edited the insect so much, that there is virtually no detail in it's eyes, which I would expect to see in a shot so big. Either that or you've missed that focal point.

Re: A few from the garden

Thats not being the bad guy! Undermining my pictures in a TOTM is being a bad guy! This was just honest critique which I appreciate!

Just looking back at the originals and there was no detail in the eye so it was a case of missed focus rather than over editing.

Re: A few from the garden

I do think the focus point is missed - it was something I noticed - but to be honest, here's me being the one to break the mould as always, I don't think it matters! I still think it's a very appealing shot, and one I would put on my own wall
