How many photos do you 'bin'?

I would say I bin 50%

Keep 50%

But out of that 50% maybe 20% are real goodies.

How about you?

Re: How many photos do you 'bin'?

Probably worse than that! I bin almost none - and this is why I never have any space - but of the ones I take, if I like about 5% that's it really! I'm very very critical of my own stuff these days, and getting worse, which is why you've seen nothing from me for so long, as far as I'm concerned, nothing is yet worth posting, not edited well enough etc!

Re: How many photos do you 'bin'?

I keep them all on disc as I do an immediate transfer to that from the camera before anything else.

So the question I think should be -how many photos do you keep on computer? And that is a different matter. Some I keep on my "main" computer- some I keep on the "C" drive on my backup computer- Some I keep on my second hard drive in the same computer- some I keep on external hard drives.
As to how many do I bin? it varies depending where I store them

Re: How many photos do you 'bin'?

Depends on what I am taking!
When I am doing insect macro I probablly bin 98% in camera then a few more when I upload. Buzzing bees are hard to capture and I'm not interested in any OOF ones.
When I am taking snaps of a family day out I probablly only bin 10% in camera and keep everything I upload as it represents a memory.
When I am doing portraits of the kids for my 365 I probablly bin 75% in camera and then another 50% after uploading as I am only interested in ones that are well exposed and have the eyes sharply in focus. I usually take pictures in rapid fire bursts so will get lots of similar ones and only keep the sharpest.

Re: How many photos do you 'bin'?

Family shots on holiday etc - I rarely bin any unless they've gone completely wrong.

In terms of 'Photography'

General shots - I guess I possibly delete 50% of them straight away and from that 50% perhaps a third of those get selected for some PP and are 'keepers'.

Quite often with Landscapes I'll take 10-20 shots of the same scene with a view to selecting the best 2 or 3 once I've had a closer look at home.

The birds are a bit different as so many are epic failures. 90% can end up deleted.

Re: How many photos do you 'bin'?

Like Phil, I rarely bin family shots. But for photography I bin most, only keep the ones I like - especially as I usually take quite a few shots for a 'shot' anyway.

Re: How many photos do you 'bin'?

I do delete a lot of images, If I do a days shoot, whether it is landscape, architecture or family, I keep what I really like, the rest gets dumped. Even images that are 'similar' are deleted.

So I would say that I delete an average of 70-80% of what I take, but then I take a lot to ensure I get some nice images that I am happy with.
