Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

I tend to just store many of the shots I take. As they are often candids of unknown people i tend not to be able to do much with them. however, like most people, I do a few other types of photographytoo, and some for specific purposes. Now i am starting to do a bit of work I have just had two of my shots professionally printed (expertly done I must say at Sams Photolab) and then framed elsewhere under glass with a mount and a frame. The mount has bevelled edges, then there is a small insert with some text again all nicely bevelled. The pictures look absolutely great, and i hardly recognise my own work! not meaning to be big headed, but the pictures look far too good to be mine and i would be pleased if a professional had done them for me!

Anyway, it has made me think now about getting a few more done, and i realise the value of that final presentation to a customer. Maybe they look pretty good on screen, but framed up they look a million times better. What about you, do you tend to just look on screenand then forget about them?

I haven't, but plan to when the house is done. I would take a look at areas that need a picture, and then look at the surrounding area (colour etc) and then perhaps go off and take a photo of something I know would 'work' in that spot.

Re: Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

I have hundreds of pictures of my kids but only recently had some printed (by Loxleys) and framed for the hall way.
I love them and I'm determined to get loads more done. I might even splash out on a canvas, but I need to get great one of all 4 kids together for that.

On a forum I use with lots of pros, they find that they sell more of the products they have samples of. Once a customer sees how good a big, framed print or canvas looks they want one.

I do get a photobook printed for free every month by hotprints.

Re: Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

Hi BC, it is my current project. I have a small of stock different size frames (many are black ones from Ikea which are quite cheap), I have recently bought a 40" mount cutter. When I have finished decorating I shall be creating my own private gallery. I also produce coffee table books using CeWe. Definitely projects for the winter months.

Re: Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

I don't do enough, but occasionally I do- sadly I never seem to get them on the walls, I have too much quirky art up for that (though I do have a small Mike Brown photo of a fox cub and a large landscape by Kevin A. Logan).

Must get a lovely one of two of my Russian Silvers done though!

Re: Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

I have had 4 of my prints professionally enlarged then a professional framer matted and frame them. I'm only counting the ones digitally captured in the past two years. I have 3 on my small apartment walls and 3 I gave as a Christmas gift a few years back. The large professionally framed shot of the hot air balloon festival cost me almost $200 to complete but I had it printed by MPIX on Metallic paper and framed under museum quality anti-glare glass.

Re: Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

I like to print a few of what I consider some of my better photos although others may disagree. Having changed my printer from an HP Photosmart to an Epson Photo PX710W
it has more scope to fine tune to the paper to print on etc.

One thing I notice is the difference between a photo on a computer screen ( which is back lite) and a hard copy. One discovery I made is getting a very good quality photographic paper makes the world of difference. I tend to use now Ilford Gallerie smooth gloss range (7x5 times 100 sheets £21.49 from Crookedimaging ) the last purchase I made from them.
AS for framing, shop can supply most sizes of frames so that is where I would head for.

Re: Do you print and frame many of your pictures?

Yep, have few now, and am in the process of adding more to my mono collection in the hallway, all are in black frames with white matts. I use Mpix and White House Custom Colour, for my prints, both are excellent.

Makes a huge difference seeing your work printed, also good see how much your work has progressed too If I look at my portfolio on line it's fine, I'm really happy with it, but when I have the physical prints in a portfolio book mounted on black card, it makes such a big difference.
