Editing nightmare

Just been looking at the number of pictures a 32gig card can take via my Panasonic camcorder

Hang on to your hats this is staggering

Using an Aspect ratio of 4.3 (whatever that means) and a 640x480 picture size (at 0.3m)

you can take 414000 pictures

Don't even think about using a 64gig card because that works out at a mind blowing 829000 pictures.

And you thought you had problems editing one photo.

Re: Editing nightmare

Thought someone might ask as I am a medium (well thats what it says in my underpants)

Here are the stats you asked for AZZ

Aspect ratio of 3.2 (14.2m)

picture size of 4608x3072

32gig card = 4200

64 gig card= 8400

Or in other words enough editing work for the next 10 years

[quote=Bazza;99821]Using an Aspect ratio of 4.3 (whatever that means) and a 640x480 picture size (at 0.3m)/QUOTE]

The Aspect Ratio is the Width / Height ratio. So 4:3 is the x,y ratio of an image. Most Standard Definition televisions (The old tube style) are 4:3 (square looking). Some older sets, and most modern LCD/Plasma are 16:9

4:3 aspect ratio is also known as 1.3
3:2 is 1.5 (3:2 fits most photo formats, i.e. 6x4, 9x6, 12x8, are all 3:2 or 1.5)

The (0.3m) is 0.3mPixels. 640x480 = 307,000 pixels (or 300 KilaPixels) which is all you need for SD (Full SD Resolution is 720x576= 414,000) pixels. This is why SD camcorders generally take crap photos, because they normally have a sensor less than 1MPixel.

If you think of a full HD image (1920x1080) the aspect ratio is 1.777 (16:9) and the pixel count is 2,073,600 or 2MPixels, so even HD camcorders that only need 2MP sensors can take fairly average photos. Normally they have CCDs that have a higher pixel count for photos, and downsample the images for video use.

Hope this helps
Alan.
