Is this what I need for using speedlight off camera

I want to be able to use my speedlight off my camera (a 550d) but retain the ETTL feature.
Will this do the job? Or is there anything (cheap) that I can use?

It will work simply because it's nothing more than an extension of your hotshoe.

Thanks guys.

I guess this is the same thing but more expensive.

I would rather go wireless, but don't want to spend much right now an I'm not sure how many of the cheapo wireness transmitters retain ETTL.

Blimey, the price has gone up on those. They are about £10 more than when I last looked!

I don't know about your Canon, but my Nikon can 'command' other Nikon flash units to fire and meter remotely. I have that lead and occasionally find it useful.

The 7D can command, but I ended up with the 550D which doesn't.
