Equipment insurance

Sure this must have been discussed before but I would like to know who you all use and can you get new for old and what sort of costs. Think I would rather trust your recommendations over and above Go Compare etc.

Re: Equipment insurance

I am with Photoguard, supposed to be one of the best. The things to look out for is if the insurance cover and what they should ask for

A = Theft away from home
B = Stolen from a car left unlocked
C= Being taken abroad
D = new for old or repair
E = Proof of purchase
F= pre registered camera equipment serial numbers

Just to name a few points. This company is not the cheapest by any means, and as for costs depends of value of the insured. I have not had to use this company as of yet but I can't afford to loose £thousands of gear. I definately wouldn't rely on ordinary household policies.

Re: Equipment insurance

As I suggested in the other thread, start with your contents insurance company as you may find any extensions they add are not as expensive nor as restrictive as a brand new dedicated policy. I was very pleasantly suprised and basically saved me about £100 over Photoguard. Of course insurance is very personal, you have to get what suits you.

Good points from Bazza, they are the things to look out for. There are some that will not pay out without proof of purchase and receipt.

Re: Equipment insurance

Mine are covered by house insurance - but if their worth exceeded more than £5000 I would get separate insurance for them

Here are some older threads on the topic Snapper:
