It's a...please tell me

Could anyone identify this bird for me, size about that of a blackbird. Thought it may be a young Woodpecker but I expected a black cap - could be wrong about that.

Not good shots so hope I am forgiven that as I think they are clear enough to see.

Thanks

Re: It's a...please tell me

Its a black (and white) Blackbird. This colouration appears to be getting more common.

Re: It's a...please tell me

Thanks Dawn, will watch to see how it walks/hops think I was fooled by the bars on the lower rump looks very like a greater spotted but it seems I was wrong. It looks odd the legs are long & orange looking and the beak seems heavy but I think that must be my fancy.

So, I have a Harlequin Blackbird, now I am used to a brown one but I reckon we will have to rename them.

Thank, will try to get a set up shot of it must say it is not really an improvement on my normal Blackbirds it seems sort of clumsy.

Re: It's a...please tell me

I have no idea but it looks a bit like a bird in my loft recently - except it was dark with symmetrical light-ish 'lines' on it's wings - I wanted to take a photo but didn't want to disturb as a chick wandered into the loft from wherever the nest is.

It's the 2nd year running that a bird has nested up there somewhere - loud things too!

That's amazing, I have never seen a blackbird like that, how cool is it to have one in your garden Jackie? xx
