Selective colour / popping - whatever you choose to call it often divides opinion but there's no doubt that this is a scene suited to it.
Composition wise I really like it but I'm not sure about the contrast. Contrasting colours don't always give you contrasting tones and in this case the colour of the sea and the colour of the sand have resulted in very similar tones. It can still be done but darkening one the colours and lightening the other prior to the B&W conversion might have given you three (sea, sky and sand) distinct elements for a stronger image.

It always happens to me with green land and blue sky.
They often look so different to your eyes but end up looking the same in b&w.
I'm getting better (slowly) at looking around for contrast rather than colour if I know I'm aiming for a b&w shot.

I like it - but it does seem a bit grey. I have no advice to offer, as I would probably have the same problem (or worse). Think the composition and sky is fantastic though!
