Wild Ospreys

Pretty savage crops I'm afraid as they were little more than a blob in the distance today but I thought I'd share a few anyway.

The Loch of the Lowes female has a toy boy this year. Speaking to the warden he told me this new male is 10 years old. They know this as he's got a ring on his leg. Despite being 10 he seems a bit of a novice and has OCD when it comes to nest building. He's been bringing logs to build up the sides of the nest higher than ever before and he's also swooping down and grabbing divots off the golf course There's two eggs in the nest just now and unlike previous years this male seems to be wanting to sit on them for a large proportion of the time whilst she goes fishing - something out of keeping for her as she has always been inclined to have the balance the other way around.

Great stuff! So glad you got some shots, really like the 4th one.

Your description made me giggle, hope he doesn't drop a log on the eggs

Re: Wild Ospreys

Cheers folks - yes I had a nice day and I was needing some fresh air.

They should call these birds lesser spotted Ospreys as it was over two hours before I saw either of them.

I'll pop back once the chicks hatch as they tend to stay closer leaving and returning in shifts every 20mins.

The nest is also a long way (tallest Scots Pine in the left window) from the hide so it's a bit of a struggle.
