Hi Tony , it's a great idea, but I don't think it's quite worked, as the main focus needs to be more on the bud, so you get the idea of waiting for it to open.
I think it's a great idea, and think you should have another go with it.
Lose the top of the pot, you don't need it, turn the pot so the bud is facing you more, and get slightly above it, so you get the idea of someone peering over it waiting for it to flower
You had a good depth of focus in the original shot, now do the same but from slightly above and the bud will stand out more, leaving the leaves more blurry. try getting close too, as the leaves of cacti are dominating the shot, and you want it to be the bud
