A self indulgent teeny brag :o)

Teeny cos I did`nt win or anything but chuffed to have finally got a reasonable placing on a photo challenge elsewhere
I`m not as traitor, honest it was just when researching the D40 I came across a site which reviews kit and also has a forum mainly for that purpose but they also do photo challenges. I have entered a few and generally feel lucky to end up in the mid range of the places but this time I managed an 8th against stiff competition, [ total entry of 93 ], so I`m well chuffed !
The voting system there is a bit odd [ to me ] as people vote on a star system to rate each photo on its own merits as opposed to comparing one to another then the averages determine places

The brief was a dog, head on to camera, on a grass only background and a square ratio.

How I got an 8th against so many of the others which I think were stunning I don`t know. but I`m sure as heck not complaining

Re: A self indulgent teeny brag :o)

Well done Patch, my image of Loki (lying on grass) came in 16th on that challenge.
I thought the 5th placed Lab would have won this challenge but I'm guessing because it was not an all green background (had some brown leaves) it lost some votes.

Check out #2! when you enlarge to full size only the body is in focus and not the eyes or head. I think when people vote on these challenges they are not viewing the full image, rather the thumbnails instead. I'm not bitter at all, honestly

Your image could easily have taken 2nd place

Re: A self indulgent teeny brag :o)

Fab shot Patch!!! And HUGE congrats! Am I allowed to ask what forum? because I was on a forum with a competition style similar to that, and I lost the link... I can't figure it out and I am still hoping to find it!

No wonder I kept looking at your shot, it did`nt click that it was the same Loki ! You should hae been placed way way higher, none of the others got the intensity and clarity in the eyes as yours did, Loki always photographs beautifully

The detail and colour on that ones was lovely and vibrant and the head was pin sharp including such detail of the tongue, mind you given that another with leaves was disqualified as it was supposed to be grass only the photographer of the Lab did well to stay in but as a standalone shot it`s a beauty.

I noticed that too, the focus point was just that bit too far back, as though the aim just missed like perhaps the dog just moved at the wrong moment ?

Yep, and people have said they sometimes vote on the first pages` worth only and various other things which make the process so odd, it`s so random but having got the 8th I don`t want to think too much about how flawed the system is
