Re: feeding time!

It's a Herring Gull, the pink legs are a giveaway!

Lesser Black Backed Gull looks similar but is more slate grey on top and has yellow legs.

Re: feeding time!

Thanks, and if no one minds can you tell me what this is, like the Herring but with black not grey wings.

and this looks like part of the crow family but appeared to be fishing

still convinced that is some sort of crow, would like to know if you and Eileen do not mind.

Re: feeding time!

First pic looks like a pair of greater black backed gulls, although they could be underexposed lesser black backs. Lesser Black Backs are about the same size as Herring Gulls and Greater Black Backs are bigger. Bopth have yellow legs.

Bottom pic is a hooded crow, it's a variant of the carrion crow, and is common in Ireland and Scotland/Northern England. We get normal carrions here in Wales.

hope that helps

Re: feeding time!

Thanks Nicola, the gulls were large compared to the Herring and I thought it was a crow but it did seem to be fishing, guess it was picking a bits and pieces in the mud. The shots were taken in Burgan, Norway.

Re: feeding time!

I love hooded crows <3 see them everywhere here... though lately we've been seeing lots of carrion crows too - which isn't common, and rather worrying - I don't want them to 'wipe out' the hoodeds by interbreeding and the hoodeds losing their colour
