I didn't know you could capture video too!

What resolution does it capture at? HD?

What was the white square?

Bull fight in the end was funny

Well, yes, if you connect the 40d via USB cable to a laptop or pc, and have some sort of image/screen capture software installed (e.g Snagit) on your computer then you can capture/record via the live view function of the 40d.
The 40d can be controlled (focus/shutter) with Canon eos utility, which is part of Canon DPP (digital photo professional software) which comes with the 40d on cd.

I used another method for recording the live view image, instead, I used the video output of the 40d and connected it directly to my Sony HXD560 DVD/HDD recorder, and from there I could view the live images on my Sony KDL-40W2000 LCD and record them on to the HDD of my DVD recorder.

The white square is what shows when you are in live view mode, it is used to move around the screen (and help you focus on a certain part of the image) when you are zoomed in 5X or 10x mode.
