Re: Bempton birds

Nice shots And at least you got some pics! All I get is a distant blur - they just seem to fly of when I want to take pics

Was driving back from a photo session the other week and this stunning bird of prey was sitting close to the road on a pole, stopped the car to get the camera out the boot and it flew off
Kit 1
Nikon D300
Nikon 55-200mm VR
Kit 2
Nikon D40
Nikon 18-55mm
My Compact/P&S: Panasonic Lumix TZ7

Re: Bempton birds

Really love the seagull in flight. I'm not too far from Bempton, but haven't made it so far this year - the puffins are a favourite!

I recently took the (then only) dog for a walk in a part of Northant's known for Red Kites. I took my camera with the Sigma 170-500 and never saw one kite.......until, I opened the tailgate and took my boots off, put my trainers back on, turned round, and saw a Red Kite flying 50-70 ft off the ground and disappearing into the distance having passed within 100yds of me.. Then there is the Hen harrier within 200 yds whilst watching for the Marsh Harrier 500 yds away story

I've come to the conclusion that the best use of my camera would be as a bird scarer on an airfield or to ensure a reliable recall when training my dogs.

It should be pointed out that I took somewhere in the region of 400 photo's on this visit and that, although these are not the only pics I like, there are not many more.

It is a wonderful place. We saw a good few Puffin , but most were in the water rather than on the cliff. One appeared from a hole on occasions , but was
too far away for me to get a good shot.
