Canon 7D (official)

Announcment from Canon today has revealed the new eos 7d
key features are
18MP APS-C CMOS sensor
8 frames per second continuous shooting
1080p HD video recording with manual controls
3.0 inch Clear View II LCD screen with 920,000 dots
19-point AF system (all cross-type)
1.0x magnification and 100% coverage viewfinder
Wireless flash control
Environmental sealing

It sounds like Canon are also continuing the xxd line and not replacing it as I would have expected with this camera release. This cam is supposed to be the big brother to the 50d, not a replacement. (more like a distant cousin, if you ask me) But it is totally differant from the 50d and has major new features and not just some minor updates.
These changes are, a new designed sensor, larger viewfinder, a new AF system with dedicated processor, dual digic 4 processors and a new shutter mechanism as well as lots of other tweaks and enhancements.

For anyone interested here is the full spec list for the 7d HERE

Canon 5D MKII
Canon 400mm f5.6 L

Re: Canon 7D (official)

Looks good although if I was spending in that region I'd be inclined to full frame and get the 5DII. That said - retaining the use of any EF-S lenses would be a bonus.

By the way - what's the cost of the new 100mm L lens ???

Re: Canon 7D (official)

When I first seen price for this cam I had to LOL £1699.99 that is just ridiculous, another few hundred or less and you can get the FF 5dMKII. Of course thats just the srp
and should be much less than that when it goes on sale. The 5dMKII is priced at £2690, so, realistically the 7d should sell for just over £1000 but no doubt users will get ripped off when it goes on sale initially.

First reports from reviewers and pixel peepers etc are quite positive so far, (unlike the 50d which took a complete battering before it even went on sale) and so I think this camera is going to do really well for Canon, at a realistic price of course
Kit 1
Canon 5D MKII
Canon 400mm f5.6 L
Canon 70-200mm f4.0 L
Canon 17-40mm f4.0 L
Kit 2

Re: Canon 7D (official)

I have just watched the line of sight trailer, not bad at all!

If the value comes down to a realistic price, then this camera might do very well, especially with the addition of video!
