5D MkII & 17-40mm f4L USM

Well, weak willed as I am and after seeing Phil's results with his new wide angle zoom lens, I have gone out and splashed the cash and bought myself a Canon 17-40mm f4L USM lens.

It's to go on the 5D MkII so I get the full benefit of the 17mm end with no sensor crop.

I must say it does feel well made as "L" lens do. I tried a few shots this afternoon but only had half an hour so opportunity was limited. My first thought was to see how it faired with flare. So I took a couple of shots with the sun in the frame and some with it just out of frame.

It does seem to handle the sun in the frame rather well. With the sun just out of shot the contrast is reduce quite a bit by flare but I think it could well be helped with a little work in PS.

Here's a few more that I took. Not works of art , just me having a play.

So far so good. I hope to give it a real test tomorrow and I let you know how it goes.

You're going to enjoy that lens - and we will enjoy the results. I hope you've managed to hide the receipt and credit card invoice from the missus - or you are in real trouble!!!

I will be in deep poo if she finds out

Beauty of having separate bank accounts.

I'm looking forward to getting out with it to see what it can do.

I'm fond of Photo # 1. I like the contrast as it adds highlights where they belong. Good composition & exposure. Crisp!
