5D MkII Noise @ High ISO

This image is nothing to shout out about but I am posting it to demonstrate the way the 5D MkII handles noise @ high ISO's.

I took this shot accidental at ISO 3200 as I was just playing with the new acquisition and did not realise I had the ISO setting on auto. Because this was taken in a room with not much light the auto ISO was raised to 3200.

I was amazed when I loaded the image in Lightroom, viewed the image and then realised what the ISO setting was. Gobsmacked!!!!

Here is the image with no cropping.

As you can see, it is very usable and I would not have guessed it had been taken at ISO 3200.

Here is a major crop to show there is noise but just how well the 5D has handled it.

The image was taken in RAW, opened in Lightroom, sharpened slightly and the exposure reduced by 1/3rd of a stop.

Exif IFD0

* Camera Make = Canon
* Camera Model = Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Re: 5D MkII Noise @ High ISO

That's pretty fantastic Steve! And one of the things I love about these new full frame DSLRs.

Radiohead posted something similar about his experience: Nikon D3 and D700 High ISO Performance

I can't wait to get another new camera with super high ISO performance!

Post some more examples if you get the time!

I too would be amazed at that almost negligible level of noise. You are going to have soooooo much fun with that new toy Steve.
