Editing software, I'm at a complete loss!

I downloaded Gimp2 but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing! It doesn't seem to download a help manual with it and I can't always be online.

Does anyone else use this? Any suggestions?

How did everyone else get started with photoshop, gimp etc etc? I need to find out the best way to learn...

Re: Editing software, I'm at a complete loss!

One of the biggest and best buys is the Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (free trial download if you look on the net) and the tutorial

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Photos.../dp/B005INJ6PY = £57.44
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Learn-Photos.../dp/B006FJ089I =£17.95

Total cost £75.39

This is what the tutoral covers

http://www.simonsezit.com/courses/le...tutorials.html

Click on the blue tags to get some idea of how the tutorial works they are on the left of the tutorials in chapter 1 and on the first 2 in chapter 2.

For those new to editing I can't recommend these enough. Consider a copy new Adobe CS6 photo starts at around £600+, those I put in the links are a real bargain and does a lot of what the full CS6 does.

hope this is of some help

I've forgotten how I used to use Gimp - but I remember I always found it quite a difficult program.

Re: Editing software, I'm at a complete loss!

Youtube is always a great recourse for these types of thing, I would start with a youtube search for "gimp how.." and you'll see lots of tutorials.

Must admit i found Gimp a hard too use, i have access to CS4 which i use lightly and may by Elements 9 as ive heard the odd numbers are best and the even numbers are tweaks.

I agree about googling tutorials, especially on youtube - it's always easier watching a video imo

Thanks Bazza, I have quite a lot of big bills in just now so I am trying to keep costs to a BARE minimum but I will certainly bear this in mind, thanks for posting the links.

On the surface it seemed like it might be easier than photoshop as I remember photoshop never used to look too "user friendly" to a newbie. But I still cant seem to know what its for how it works...

Trouble is I cant always get online. I wonder, can you save YT vids to watch later?

Yep, I'm defo a kinaesthetic/visual learner! Text books, hovering over symbols and guesswork dont seem to be doing it anyway
