Re: Photoshop CS6 etc.

A 500mm lens for that price would be far less important than a decent photoshop copy, because the quality would be so poor I would think

I'm happy with CS3 for now I cannot afford upgrades, and in the end, it does what it needs to do. It's not skimping, I just see no point in fixing something when it works well enough!

Re: Photoshop CS6 etc.

Oh dear I have photoshop 4............ I must be a right old skinflint............. I like to spend more time in front of the camera than in front of the screen tweaking what I did wrong......

But as someone else said ''each to their own''

Re: Photoshop CS6 etc.

I think the update is $199 here, and around $700 if you have to buy the full version. It's an amazing piece of software.

Re: Photoshop CS6 etc.

I am quite happy with Elements 10, but then I am not heavily into editing anyway. As long as the photo looks good enough to me, be it pre or post editing, I am satisfied. It really all boils down to what you are doing with a photo, i.e selling it on a commercial basis or just for personal pleasure. The way I look (no pun intended) at is there are hundreds if not thousands of photos out there on the free to grab basis one would nowadays be very lucky to sell an individual photo.

Obviously there are exceptions, such as commissioned works like weddings-christenings-family portraits- professional shots for companies and the like where a photo is going to be examined in the smallest detail when buying expensive editing suits come into their own. For the average semi or even professional photographer serious thought needs to be given to the cost/return value for such a huge capital outlay.

Re: Photoshop CS6 etc.

The thing is I do graphic design too, so use alot of adobe products like Photoshop and Illustrator. The reason Adobe products are so expensive is that they are the best in there class, and if you look at the credits, alot of people salaries need to be payed. Basically it's an essential tool that's superior to others in it's sector, and if you can't afford it there's always Elements.

Re: Photoshop CS6 etc.

Ah my son does graphic design as well. He was head hunted by an American company a few years ago and others and spent 18 months with startup companies to get them going.
He has just come back again from the USA after doing a lecture tour and the company he works for over here is sending him out to Denmark in the next couple of weeks as the company advisor on a contract, then he is back and again off to New York as a company out there has signed a contract for the company he works for to do work for them. So he's off to the Big Apple ( luck sod). Still I have to admire him he did get a 1st class honours degree in Graphic Art and Design and now its paying off.

So he is in the same line of work as yourself. its all way beyond me what he does.

He will have to earn buckets to keep me and "er indoors" in the manner to which we have become accustomed to in our retirement .
