EXIF Data - do you ?

Exif data is a record of the settings a camera used to take a photo or video. This information is embedded into the files the camera saves.

Most browsers have Exif 'viewers' allowing you or I to simply right click on a particular image posted on the forum to view the Exif data.

Whether 'asking' or 'offering' advice - this info is really handy however some people's images have Exif data intact whilst other's don't.

I was wondering whether this is simply down to the settings within the 'host' site - photobucket, Flickr etc....or whether people choose to make their Exif invisible ?

There is an option in "save for web" to either retain the exif data or strip it out. It would seem you may have yours set to strip it out

Re: EXIF Data - do you ?

As I have my own web space and host most of my own photos, the EXIF is intact.

EXIF data can sometimes be a great learning aid as to how something was achieved.

I'm not really sure why anyone would actively strip it though?

I agree.

One site I know of makes it mandatory that the exif data (focal length, shutter speed, ISO etc.) is copied and pasted into the post with the image. This enables people viewing to get an idea of how the image was captured and learn from it.

Re: EXIF Data - do you ?

no mine is supposed to be stripped, had a few problems on Flickr with a strange person, and my contact details were in my Exif, as they are all in my camera, so anything that goes on Flickr, the web as in public forums, gets stripped.

If anybody ever wants to know, what I shot something at, just ask
