Newly Discovered Printing Gem

Printing color prints at home is expensive. I buy only the top of the line HP Premium Plus Photo paper. I only buy it when someone is selling it at half price. I have two injet printers, my new D110 HP & my Canon 4300 Pixma.

Months ago I had heard from one of my coworkers that Costco, a huge warehouse membership discount chain had really good quality prints available for very little money. His wife is a professional portrait photographer and uses Costco exclusively. Today I decided to try them out.

I was blown away. They have half a dozen computers set up for users to upload their photographs and then pick the size, quality & paper they want. Once you complete your order it prints out a sales slip you keep after paying the final tally. I ordered 5 8x12 high gloss top quality prints after uploading them with a flash memory stick I brought with me. The guarantee they'll be ready in an hour. It took 40 minutes. They quality was the best I'd ever seen by anybody, local or online. The total price was $7.49. That's incredible. That barely covers the cost of the paper much less the full frame 8x12 sizw on great paper. They will be getting a lot business from me.

I have all my photos printed either on line or in a local shop [boots asda or truprint]. I gave up with the home printer years ago as the shops are cheap as chips compared to printing them yourself.

Good find Bob, I wonder if you will be prining out more pics now?

Some of the supermarkets have similar here, you can even get single prints for 30p

I have 1,012 photos printed since I started this photography malarky in June 2010, and all of them are printed with Jessops. Okay, thay are not the cheapest, but I think their prints are of excellent quality for the money I pay xx

I don't think I'll be printing a lot simply because my apartment is so small I don't have the storage space. I had my favorite 5 portraits printed in that experiment so now I need to hunt for frames for the 8x12 prints.

Hi jols,
You mentioned that you’ve used ASDA for prints; have you had any poster prints done by them?
If so, are they any cop and what is the gsm of the paper used.

No sorry only used them for 10 x 8 and smaller.

But I can recommend DSCOLOUR LABS for poster prints..........

I love printing my own images. I've never given it any thought to have them done professionally. I usually do A4 (297 x 210 or 8 1/4 x 11 1/2) Canon + glossy 260 grms. I usually mount them on an A3 mount board. I reckon the cost (ink, paper and mount) is about £2 ($3) per print mounted. I've got the Canon Pixma iP4700 and it makes me look a better photographer than I really am!
