The variations are infinite and we all have our own likes and dislikes. Perhaps as well, life would be boring if we all liked the same thing.

The thing with black and white is you have to make sure you get a good balance of correct tones. I've been learning to get it right for 6 years and i think i'm nearly there.

It's not good with the simple check box that monochrome or to simply desaturate the image, you have to work on different sections of the image with layer masks and curves, it takes time to master this but once done you'll never look back.

Think I prefer the sepia one no 3 - find 4 a bit to crisp for me nature is not that harsh well not to me it isn't. Of the true Black and white I prefer the original.

I think even mono's need to be chosen to match the subject. Example the sepia tone adds to the canal scene. The others seem too clinical and sharp for the subject.
