Butterfly

I quite liked this shot. I know it can be improved, if I could reshoot I would move the flowers to the right out of the shot, unfortunately I doubt the butterfly would have hung around long enough for me to do this (Also if you have eagle eyes you may notice a hair on my lens which admittedly is more apparent in other shots )

Re: Butterfly

I think this is fab - I wouldhave cloned out the little bit of flower peeping into the picture but other than that, fantastic - and what a gorgeous butterfly. We see so few here really - and all of them white.

Re: Butterfly

Oh you did so well to get a photo like that. I went to a small but interesting butterfly farm connected with a zoo and had no end of problems trying to get a good photo of one.

Either they are flying about or if like in your photo on a plant, when you have got close enough and the camera in focus they tend to fly off. After half an hour in tropical heat I was really swetting but did manage to get a couple of reasonable but not fantastic shots.

I would love to spend a day just photographing them in a larger butterfly house

Re: Butterfly

What a gorgeous shot, love it
The sharp detail is stunning, and the dof, [ see, I`m learnin` ], looks really good, I`d be over the moon if I could ever take a shot as beautiful as that

Re: Butterfly

Agree with the others it is indeed a really accurate piece of work but I think I can see why you are not so pleased with it. May be more area around the flower & butterfly or perhaps a narrower dof so the butterfly or the flower are sharp and something within the shot is a little soft.

Also would like to see the flower in the corner removed.

Just had a play with it and think it is more pleasing when more upright, however unless you have cropped it to a large extent you are not going to be able to do that.

I have missed your macro work, miss Melody's too, it's a wonderful shot, and I would be so happy to have taken this. Awesome detail in the butterfly. xxx

No - sorry if it came across like that but I am pleased with it I can see ways I would improve it, so thought I would comment on them myself (rather than people thinking I didn't notice them) but unfortunately nature isn't always that obliging and I don't believe in much PP.

Thanks Snapper, I was trying to isolate the subject from the background and didn't want anything in the shot soft I deliberately chose a greater DoF to achieve this but one that was narrow enough to blur the background. If I had taken a step back I would have got more external flowers in the shot, something I was trying to avoid.

It isn't cropped at all I guess I left it how it was as this is the angle the flower was at (and I liked the way it cuts a diagonal through the image).

This was taken in a butterfly place too, in the same conditions you mentioned above. It was hot and humid so I didn't spend too long in there - was really pleased to get the shot though. I have another that I like, the only thing is I cut the bottom of the wing off slightly
