Re: New lens

If that is the case that is not very fast and I am thinking on my feet to try to relate that to the lens.

It means that if you point your camera in the correct mode and press to take a series of shots you are only going to be taking them at quite a slow speed, 3 frames a second. So that means that you are really going to rely on yourself to catch the focus at a particular moment. That means you are going to have to use a high f number too get the faster shutter speed.

That means getting a fast lens for your action shots is not going to help and the camera will not take a burst at a fast enough speed to make use of a fast lens, because you need the extra dof to make sure it is sharp.

Do wish someone else would come on to help you, think it may be because most of us are not familiar with the Sony.

Hope I may have helped in a small way, as Azz said a fast prime at 50 or 75 will give you a lovely portrait lens but you will need something at least 250 for the action shots particularly for the smaller dogs and 350 would be better.

What mount does the Sony have, is it special to Sony - what I am asking is can you use Sigma or Tamron lens or can you get an adaptor mount? Just noted you can use Minolta so I will have a look with that in mind and see if I can find anything, also what do you want to spend it will make a difference as to whether you can get better than you have already.

Re: New lens

Had a quick look and both Sigma and Tamron do lens for the camera but the fastest I could find is a Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 it is also a macro which in this case means you can use it close to the subject you are shooting. Now I am not sure this will be any better than the lens you have but it is not expensive at £189 and it is possible you may find it cheaper as I look to see what my favourite store was charging.

Re: New lens

Thank you Snapper

Its really helpful information. I initially went for the Sony due to the feel and my experience with Sonys generally. I will not upgrade and I cannot see myself ever being truely serious (as in a job) about photography, although I have done a few favours for friends.

The Lens mount (taken from Sony website) '..A-Mount bayonet lenses from Minolta and Konica Minolta' And of course the Sony ones.

Money wise....I am not unlimitied but I have recently had abit of money and would like to spend some of it on a new lens...if I can find one that would be worth it!

Thanks again for all your help
