Re: First dslr camera help ?

Agree with the general consensus here - most modern DSLRs in that budget are excellent, and it really depends more on which one 'feels' right in your hands, or which one has any specific features you might want

Take a trip to Jessops, and have a handle of all the cameras that interest you, then when you have a shortlist of two - come back and let us know and we can give you further opinions
Kit 1
Nikon D300
Nikon 55-200mm VR
Kit 2
Nikon D40
Nikon 18-55mm

Re: First dslr camera help ?

Although I understand Bazza's point your budget is £400 which doesn't give you much access to pro level cameras. That would just about get you a secondhand Nikon D200 body. If you think you can afford more, it does open up a new world but where do you stop.

I think this would blow your budget but it's a good deal. I have a brand new completely unused two year warranty Nikon D90 with 18-105 VR lens (competition prize). Willing to sell at around £690 inc post. which should be about £110 less than Jessops so significant saving. Excellent camera you would unlikley grow out of for several years unless you started doing weddings or something specific. Of course Canon etc. do there own ranges, as do the others which are equally as good in their own way.
Kit 1
Nikon D700
Nikon 28-70 f2.8 ED AF-S (The Beast)

Nikon 70-300mm VR
Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (DX)
Nikon 28-105mm (great walkaround on D700!)

Nikon 20-35mm f2.8
Nikon SB800
Kit 2

Nikon 20mm f2.8
Nikon 24mm f2.8

Re: First dslr camera help ?

Hello, sorry i never replied to anyone :S
thanks for answers, I'm still not sure about what camera to get, i think d3000 is the main one at the mo.... although.. do you think the d5000 is worth the extra money? When i get to grips with one of these do you think I'll want to get a better one?
