Did my first photoshoot

I did my first newborn photo shoot today, and I loved it!

It had been cancelled last week as the baby had been unwell, but it went well.
The parents were lovely, the most adorable baby, and a cheeky toddler/fairy who crept into a few. It wasn't that long as I kept reading, with newborns keep it short and sweet. I was incredibly lucky that they had a very nice , neutral type house with a huge window, that flooded the room with natural light, so didn't really need my borrowed lights.

Things I have learnt are make sure the place where you are shooting is very warm, natural light is best if possible, shoot around the baby, and let it find it's own position on what ever it is laid against, and work with it. But most of all, to enjoy it! Also include any siblings as it makes them feel involved too, and they make good assistants!

I will be truthful and admit to being terrified, really nervous, but once I got started, the nerves went. I obviously did it for free, and will do so again. I am doing them a disc with some of the pics, and their fave I will get printed in a 10" x8".

Once the parents have seen them, and if they say it is okay, I will post a few.

Yeah, don't suppose you get many wellies or fairy wings. She had one of those fairy wands that when you swish it , it makes fairy type music

Re: Did my first photoshoot

Thanks so much for sharing your experience Suzi. There are those on this forum who may think about doing what you did but are petrified. Your courage has help them a lot.

Your tale broght back memories of my start over 25 years ago. I volunteered at my church to work Sunday morning in the 2 year old nursery. Kids are so innocent at that age and mostly willing subjects. There's lots of emotion shared in the 1 hours average time spent there before they're picked up by their folks to go home

As a result of that wonderful experience capturing children my photos are in many home across the country. I remember shooting each & every one as will you.

Good luck on your journey in portraiture. I can't wait to see your first work. I'm sure you learned a lot and will improve with each & every experience.
