Fyrish monument, Dunrobin Castle, Rapeseed field and Elliston tower

A few shots from Sunday's trip up to Dunrobin Castle and 2 hour trek to the Fyrish monument near Evanton in Easter Ross. Also, a couple from yesterday at Elliston tower on Kenmuir hill, Howwood, Renfrewshire.

1) Fyrish monument. At 1485 ft above sea level, the Fyrish Monument was built in 1782 on Fyrish Hill (Cnoc Fyrish), in Fyrish near Evanton, Easter Ross, Scotland, on the orders of Sir Hector Munro, 8th of Novar, a native lord of the area who had served in India as a general. It represents the Gate of Negapatam, a port in Madras, India, which General Munro took for the British in 1781. It is visible from almost anywhere in Kiltearn and Alness.

The walk up there can take between 1.5 and 3 hours, myself and Maria did it in just over 2 hours which was not to bad considering all the photo gear we were carrying, we had several short breaks too.

2)Dunrobin Castle. A lovely day spent at Dunrobin Castle before heading to the Fyrish monument. Polarisor and 6 stop ND filter used on this shot.

3)Rapeseed field, Delny, Invergordon

4)Highland cows (this one was actually taken on the 23rd April somewhere in Moidart)

5)Another view of the Fyrish monument (very cold and windy up there)

6)Elliston tower and lone cow - Howwood, Renfrewshire , shot yesterday.Elliston tower on Kenmuir hill Howwood. Hoya polarisor and a Lee 0.3 hard GND filter.

7)Fyrish monument

8)Elliston tower. Elliston tower on Kenmuir hill Howwood. Shot using a Hoya polarisor and a Lee 0.3 hard GND filter.

9)Fyrish monument

10)Elliston tower and cow again

Very nice Grant.

1,2 and 7 would be my favourites - 6 reminds me a bit of the the Windows XP wallpaper.

Do they still have the birds of prey at Dunrobin. It's been about 4 years since I was last there but they used to do a nice (albeit small) display. Mainly owls and falcons from what I remember.

Crackin' pics.

My husband comes from Sutherland and we go up every Summer. ..to my shame I have been through Evanton a zillion times and did not know that monument was there.

Going up to Skarfskerry in July and will most definitely be stopping at Evanton this time thanks to your wonderful shots.

The Highland cattle shot is excellent too..beautiful capture.

Thanks Phil. Yes they stil have a BOP display but not on a Sunday. We did see one of the birds out for some exercise though, think it might have been a Harris hawk.

Another wonderful series of shots Grant, number 1 gets my vote as a favourite, especially when I look at the bigger version. Next up are number 3 and 8.

I like number 2 as well but the sky has gone a little to dark on the right of shot number 2 for my taste
