My Jaunt into Weddings

So, this past weekend I shot a wedding for a co-worker friend of mine. It was a relatively small ceremony with not too many odds and ends, just a bunch of friends and family. Basically, i wanted to share it with the YoPho community and receive some C&C and any other feedback you might have.
Teaser shots:

I was the primary (pretty much only) photog shooting so I was moving around a lot. I shot everything that is on the page currently (i turned partial site control over to the newly weds to add photos to the site as they please).

I covered:
-Pre-wedding with the groom (Bride's friend photogged her)
-Ceremony
-Post-Ceremony photos of family/friends
-Reception
-**Bonus** there was a spare room with a couch and coffee table in it, i decided to set that up with my spare D40 and an SB-600 with a flash-head mounted softbox and remote shutter as a Photobooth or Confessional as everyone was calling it

Lenses used:
- Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8
- Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

Please check out the site here: http://malarikwedding.shutterfly.com/

Let's discuss your experience with weddings! Whether it's shooting a wedding, or (not) noticing photogs at the wedding.

Re: My Jaunt into Weddings

Some nice work there R.

Personally I would be too scared to shoot a wedding in case I messed up... recently a photog here in the UK got sued for 'crap' shots

We have a great wedding photographer here on YoP, Radiohead - check out some of his shots, they are truly awesome and I'm sure a great inspiration to all budding wedding photographers out there:

Re: My Jaunt into Weddings

Wow that spot was incredible! Only 404 photos taken and they made over a grand!! I made 260 USD shooting this past wedding..and those photos are abysmal. I don't charge much because i'm a little worried that the client wont like my point-of-view. The clients are happy so the weight is lifted off my shoulders.

Thanks for the look Azz.

Re: My Jaunt into Weddings

Some really great shots there. Well done.
Doing a wedding must be really stressful - you can't go back and retake and everyone has such high expectations.

Re: My Jaunt into Weddings

You seem to have some good ideas which could be improved by a little more attention to details. For me the first shot is spoilt by the line made by the edge of the art work running up between them, moving the couple to the left would have produced a far more satisfactory result, although you would still have a hard horizontal line.

Not sure why you decided to only have the first chap in focus, for me to extend the DOF so all were in focus would have turned a good idea and composition into a real winner.

There seems to be a problem with clipping in the middle of this shot, perhaps a problem of a white dress against a white wall, there is also something strange going on in the bust area. May be to move the couple further from the background and tighten the DOF or perhaps a simple move to the left or right by the photographer would have solved the problem.

Hope my comments are viewed as an attempted to be helpful as the compositions are good, different and interesting.

Re: My Jaunt into Weddings

I think Jackie makes some very good points, and I have nothing much further to add, except that I think you've done a grand job, and the clients are happy - which is a good thing!
