Re: Light Graffiti - anyone else tried it?

Great stuff Ian, enjoyed those Although I'm not very interested in painting figures, I am very interested in using light painting to illuminate a foreground subject in a long exposure.

Here is an example of what I mean exactly. This image was taken by a chap called David Gillies at a well known location in Loch lomond. 10min long exposure and a small torch used Click HERE to view
this image.

I suppose you could also get this effect from using external flash guns setup arround the subject while doing the long exposure and they could be triggered at the end or beginning of the exposure.

I always have a torch with me, so, I'll stick to using that just now. It's just a matter of being at the right location at the right time to do some of this stuff.

Re: Light Graffiti - anyone else tried it?

Just noticed on the front of 'Photoplus: Canon Edition' february edition that they have an article on painting with light. Looks like the serious stuff DJ is talking about rather than the fun stuff!
Thought it might interst someone.

Re: Light Graffiti - anyone else tried it?

Yeah, it's the same basic principle, just using it differently.

In some of my previous night-time exposure shots, I've used that technique to add light to buildings etc, but the light graffiti thing is just a bit of fun.

Although, this guy takes it very seriously, and may provide some inspiration to those of you who fancy giving it a go.
I just used a simple torch, but he uses various light sources, all within the one exposure, and some of his stuff is just mind-blowing.
Click the link below to see some of his work:

He has a video section on his website which shows you how he does what he does.

I'm still waiting to see some of your own examples folks!

Re: Light Graffiti - anyone else tried it?

Very good,

I have done this sort of thing before, but not with such defined shapes, its pretty hard to draw a complete shape because you have to remember where you started from
