Sigma Nikon fit Aspherical Zoom lens 24-70mm f/3.5-5.6 work on d40x?

Almost sure it won't Jols as I don't think it has a built in motor. It will fit, but won't AF drive.

Not only that, but your 18-55 beats it on quality. Although that is only the base kit lens, it is considered a good bang for buck lens even though a little slow. If you want a little more focal length, the 18-105mm kit lens is meant to be pretty good and versatile although you are still stuck at quite slow max. apertures. As you are aware, the D40x has no internal AF drive so it rather restricts what you can get without pushing the boat out to £200 ish+ secondhand for a good replacement.

It will fit, whether it will autofocus I couldn't say, possibly not.

That list isn't strictly true and is a bit misleading. Some of those will depend on which version of the lens as several are screw driven AF which the D40x doesn't do. When I made my post earlier I nearly suggested as an upgrade (if you are trying to achieve 70mm get) the Nikon 18-70mm kit lens. It's a corker for the money, often around £100 secondhand. However I hesitated as I didn't think it had a built in motor. The Tamron 28-75mm for example, also very good, maybe a bit long on a DX format camera, but again there are versions with and without the motor, the non-motor version being the most sought after as it has faster autofocus but not compatable with the D40x. The Nikon 17-35 f2.8D, could be wrong here, but wasn't that a few years ago and only screw AF?

Jols, I had the Sigma 17 - 70 mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro HSM, it was a little heavy,and not the fastest lens but a good solid lens, and I was always pleased with the results, think it's been updated now, so should be able to pick it up the older version second hand. Will definitely work with your camera
