What made you pick up a camera?

As the title says

What made you pick up a camera......age etc?

I will start

I was expecting my first child 10 years ago and bought a fuji 1.3million pixel digital camera and there my love began.

I have thousands of pictures of my son and love taking pitures of people which progressed to my wedding photography.

After giving up wedding photography to get my hobby back I am loving it.

If I sell a picture thats great but there is no pressure, turning a hobby into a business is not always all what you think it will be.

So come on tell us your story, I know some of the old timers here will of said before but for the newcomers say it again, it could be a chance to get to know each others photography journey better.

Re: What made you pick up a camera?

It started for me aged 10. My dad let me borrow his camera ( A kodak brownie 127). It was a curious camera sort of elliptical looking down on it, made of bakelite. I was very happy, And lost it

The old man went spare. ke bought a Kodak Retinette 1b to replace it. 5 years later I went on a school trip to Switzerland and he lent me that. I didn't lose it. All the controls... focus, shutter speed, aperture were amazing to me and because it was a fully manual camera I wasn't expecting miracles. Amazingly, I had some good shots from it! A couple of years later My brother sold me his first slr, a Topcon with a 50mm lens. I loved it, and from there I started my love affair with Olympus cameras with my OM1. Since then more SLR's and finally two years ago my first DSLR, an Olympus of course! lol.

Re: What made you pick up a camera?

Had film cameras as a kid, but was never really interested in how to use it, just point and clicked, and wound the film on to the next frame.

I borrowed OH's Panasonic bridge camera in 2008 to take a picture of my latest orchid, as I was nagging him to do it,and he kept forgetting. Didn't have clue really, and got some lucky results, and basically went off with that camera and so began an expensive journey

Re: What made you pick up a camera?

Also had a range of film camera's as a kid but was primarily a painter who used my wee Canon Sureshot to help record scenes as an aide de memoire when I got to the canvas.

Then at the end of 2009 2 things happened simultaneously. I got diagnosed with Colon Cancer and I got hold of a DSLR. I quickly established that the DSLR was much more fun to be around than the cancer. I threw myself into photography and bought a high end compact for the times after two subsequent lots of major surgery when I couldn't carry the heavier stuff and the whole photography lark kept me sane through some very dark times.

Just had my annual scans which came back clear and am treating myself to a wee upgrade.

Like Cakey mine was fishing related. There's much wildlife around lakes and my little Kodak compact just didn't do what I wanted it to. So a couple of years ago I bought a Fuji S5800 second hand off ebay. I was amazed at what it could do and got more and more into taking pictures since then.
