The Gearagh

I know landscapes aren't really my thing... but I've been practising, and I hope improving a bit too. Thought I'd post a few pics of The Gearagh, as it's such an interesting place. We went there with Birdwatch Ireland before Xmas - and really enjoyed it. It's normally fabulous for wildlife, but the flooding and iciness around here have done the wildlife no favours, and we are noticing a sudden drop in the birdlife around here So yesterday we didn't see the American Wigeon that's been there we did however see a flock of Whooper Swans inthe far distance! ;D that was lovely. We also saw Ravens and a Tufted Duck - which we don't get round here much, so that was cool. Also saw Kingfishers zipping past at silly speeds. Karl also thought that the mudflats would be OK to walk on, and found that the opposite was the case, when he got stuck in mud up to the knees. We did have a bit of a panic, as he really couldn't get out, but with a bit of a struggle we freed him eventually. I'm gutted I got no photos of that! ;D

Annnyway - pics. It's basically a drowned forest: http://www.discoverireland.ie/Search...stItemID=44631 and: http://www.ucc.ie/staff/memmers/Gearagh.htm

We had such weird lighting there yesterday too! Hope you found it interesting, it's a fantastic place! Thought I'd share as apparently there's nothing like it in the UK - it's the only one in western Europe - which I thought was a bit cool! I do have mono conversions of these as well, which are very cool, but I've not uploaded them yet.

Very nice - it certainly looks like a cool place to photograph.

I think number 3 is my favourite - some lovely reflections in that still water.

Re: The Gearagh

That was one of my favourites too Phil. I was thinking about what I could do if I had some filters etc there, would be great fun messing about!

Thanks all!

Permission sought

Re: The Gearagh

Zoundz, I like the first photograph on this page, and unless I can obtain a more appropriate shot, I would be interested in using it in a powerpoint presentation and on my website corkorigins.ie as one example of the former landscapes of Cork City (anastomosing woodland river). Can you provide permission and, if so, the name of the photographer that I should use on the image, nickname or otherwise? ABz
