Eye-Fi Memory Card - Initial Report
I received my Eye-Fi 8 GB Explore/X2 memory card today that included an SD memory card reader with a USB plug for your computer. All the software you need is programmed on the memory card. In the setup process the software loads itself on your computer and seeks out your wi-fi network. You choose the network, you enter your security password. The software checks your firewall security and asks you to disable it just for this software. That way there won't be any problems uploading files to your computer.
Next you have the option of also uploading to an online account like smugmug, flicker, photobucket, picassa or hundreds of other sites. You must give them your password to allow access to upload. The software does ll the rest. It asks you to take a photo of yourself and in about 6 seconds it pops up in the bottom right of your computer monitor as a thumbnail image with an upload progress bar. It doesn't take long and it is also loading the photo or photos to your online site.
It all works flawlessly! I was working with a 12.1 Megapixel camera shooting 4,000 x 3,000 pixels images. It's fast. So, in conclusion, for $99 I have an 8 Gig memory card that never gets full unless you're away from a wi-fi network.
