Portrait lens?????
Good evening, What lens would give good results for portraits idealy cheap, Sorry hate that word, inexpensive as possible i have my canon kit lens 18-55 would this be any good? i see a well known retailer do a 50mm f1.8 for just under £100 should i be looking at this?

Yes, I have canon now sold all my nikon, i had the 50mm 3 days and never used it, just got the tamron 300mm and the sigma 400mm for my canon cost me a fortune, like my superbikes, off to thruxton soon

The 50mm f1.8 would be an ideal Portrait lens on your 500D, as it would give you the equivalent FOV of a 80mm lens.

Sound like you would get on well with my brother, he used to race classic bikes, but now does the odd track days.

Wow, did you take that photo? i like my 400mm i had the same lens on my nikon but it never auto focused unlike my canon, What lens was that?
