It's filthy, absolutly minging.

OK So I am out again today snapping away and took a little look at my lens and I must say it was filthy.

I have looked at all my lens tonight and they all need a clean.

So it got me thinking do you clean on a regular basis or do you just wait like me until you are embarrassed by the state of your lens?

And when you do clean do you have a routine?

Re: It's filthy, absolutly minging.

I clean my lenses when I comehome after using them and then put them away ready to go next time.

I use lense cleaning wipes and then a wee gentle buff with a lense cloth. I also give the camera screen and viewfinder a wee clean at the same time

Amazing how grubby they get when you just KNOW you didn't touch them.

Every time WOW I have not cleaned my lens since at least last August.

Do they really need cleaning that much?

mmmmmmm I wonder.

And yes I never touch them

Re: It's filthy, absolutly minging.

I haven't got a set regime but I do check them regularly and if I see any marks, smears or dog saliva then I use a blower to clear any grit or sand (even with a lens wipe if there is grit on the lens it could scratch) and then give a clean with a microfibre cloth.

Like Daisy I will give the camera a quick clean. I find that right in the corners of the viewfinder are an absolute nighmare for trapping dirt and muck. I use a cotton wool bud to get in the corners.

yeah...even if it's just a quick wipe over.

I wouldn't use my reading glasses without making sure they were clean, same goes for my camera lenses.

Re: It's filthy, absolutly minging.

I only clean the front element if necessary by inverting the lens, so the front element is facing down, then I use a soft brush to remove any potential small grit particles, then clean with a soft lens cloth & huff.

Any dust/dirt on the front element of your lens will cause some amount of diffraction especially when shooting in to the light (contre jour) so it is best tokeep it as clean as possible.

Re: It's filthy, absolutly minging.

I alway keep a filter on my lens either UV or clear, I know its not what everyone does but I prefer to so its just a case of cleaning a filter and not a lens.
