Wedding Photography - most profitable?

Just wondering if wedding photography is the most profitable type of photography?

And if i wanted to get into it, would i be better off starting off with a lot regular portrait work first before covering any weddings?

Has anyone here had a paid wedding job?

Re: Wedding Photography - most profitable?

When I think back to how much our wedding photographs cost - I'm pretty sure there must be money to be made.

As for the most profitable ? There certainly seems to be a market these days for pictures of female celebs who haven't been taught how to step out of car in a dignified manner !

Re: Wedding Photography - most profitable?

Average cost is anywhere between £700 - £1200ish.

Its something id like to do, but there is loads of competition in that area. It would more than likley be a sideline on my studio work if i were to do it...

Re: Wedding Photography - most profitable?

I think being able to 'edit' pics would give you the extra advantage?

We've done photos for client websites, and have often whitened peoples teeth or lost their double chins for them photoshop can do wonders you know

Re: Wedding Photography - most profitable?

£700 seems to be the average starting price around here...
Some prices go up to £2000... depends on the package you get...

I felt there was quite a few areas i would have done differently if i was the photographer at my sisters wedding... like location for the photos after the wedding service... and i'd have visited the location before hand, and even tried to get the bride and groom there too...
