Re: Friend

Thanks Azz, and yes, been acquiring a few lenses over the last few months and a D300 a week or so back. Excellent camera. Today I was just showing my friend my bits of kit and saw the opportunity for a snap. Didn't have chance to change ISO so took the shot when it was there.

Re: Friend

If you're shooting in P mode be sure to activate auto ISO

Also I must say that once you get familiarised with the layout it's pure bliss to use - all the control placements are very well thought out. I loved mine! Can't wait to get a D700 or D3

Might give auto ISO a try, but prefer to keep control. Maybe it's fine but sort of goes against my natural inclinations...I guess I do use P sometimes so I'm halfway there

I had a D200 so the 300 seems natural in it's controls but there are so many variables in the menus. The guy I bought it from had a D700 and seems pleased with it but for me right now it's too much of an investment for a weekend hobby plus it needs better glass to make it worthwhile. The D3 is just a monster size and even more expensive to run. Anyway Azz both you and JR are claiming ownership for that D300 in your signatures!

PS. Thanks Moonie, I recommend it for sure. I've used it at work and a load of shots that aren't suitable for here and it was fine. Seems to lighten and boost blues in the picture but apart from that it's a very nice feeling camera. Picture above is pretty much the idea I had in mind when I spotted the shot, 'bleached' face highlights, and hair black but I'm not good enough in PP to get it exactly as I'd like nor am I using the right display. Looks ok on my laptop.
