Re: A winter sunrise

Great shots - both of them.

I like the 1st one best though. I think the horizon is better placed and the exposure has picked out more of the ground.

Re: A winter sunrise

Compositionally the 1st shot works well Ian.

If you dont mind, I'd like to offer some constructive critique.

Given your choice of scenery you are very lucky, as it sells itself pretty much.

However, I'd go a step further and try to sell it just that bit more by composing the shot and taking the light reading from the foreground and locking the exposure before reframing on your final focal point.

This would have the effect of lifting the light of the foreground to correctly expose it and enrich the colours of the morning sun reflecting off the surface. for example, my edit below has no added saturation - all I have done is adjusted the exposure of the foreground slightly in the way I have described above.

My other considerations would be to set your focal point of the picture slightly off centre when you compose your picture. With the 10/20 you might want to be looking at filling the foreground to lead into the focal point. In this instance, whether deliberately or not, the reflected lines from the sun do that.

Over all a pleasing shot and certainly something to build on.

Nice to see the broadband revolution has reached the peaks of Lancashire. I'm looking forward to seeing more work from you.
