Some House Sparrows

Got these a couple of days ago, against my ivy covered front wall (sadly there was no way I could blur the background any more in any of these because of how close to it the birds were - but some came out well - and the others are just nice snaps! The light was lovely - we had a glorious hot sunny day, so I took full advantage, by sitting in the car for hours, photographing the odd sparrow that landed

1. My favourite!

2.

3.

4.

5. Liked the dreamy feel to this one

Re: Some House Sparrows

Lovely shots.

I see what you mean about the wall being too close to the bird (in 2 and 3) but they're still good. The birds are sharp so (if the background bothers you) blurr the background in Pshop to look like number 4 ?

Re: Some House Sparrows

Well, number 1 is just a tighter crop of number 4 - so I do like both, but I wasn't sure about the compo on number 4 Thanks for liking them!

Phil, I could blur the background in PS - if I was any good at it I don't do much editing for a very good reason *fail*

Re: Some House Sparrows

Really great captures Z.

You've done a fantastic job on the crop for image 1. It works really well.

Is the " Dreamy feel " to number 5, just another way of saying that this one is soft, and out of focus? lol

I personally wouldn't have put 5 in with the rest of this set. This is where your editorial judgement as a photographer has to come in to it.
You have to think " Even although I like this image, will it add any value to the rest of the set that I'm posting?" And in this case, I don't think it does.

I really do love the rest though. it's not easy to capture small birds, and I'm awful at it. I always admire DJ when he posts his cracking images of birds. I don't know how he does it.

Well done.

Re: Some House Sparrows

Thanks all - and MD, you'd be right about number 5! I thought it was pretty obvious! I do really like the shot though. I think it's due to the background, I think it confused my eyes/the camera etc etc - it was awfully bright. Still, it came out rather pretty - even though it was a definite throw away photo. It's quite heavily cropped too, as the body of the bird has a branch in front.

Don't get me wron,g I know it's not a good image, and I wouldn't have included it if I was doing say an 'exhibition of sparrow photos' or even on a website (if I had one!), but I wanted to include it here as one of my 'snapshots' like number 2 and 3!

Appreciate the feedback guys!
