Re: A complete beginners 52

Week 20

Todays 52s are a reminder to me of my place!
A friend of mine wants some new family photos done. Last time she went to Venture. She planned to buy one small picture and instead bought 3 medium pictures costing her £1200!!!!!!
I said I'd do a few for her for free and went around to do a few test shots to see what the light in her kitchen is like. I snapped away happily - posing with hubby's fancy camera and holding a reflector like I knew what I was doing. I took loads of pictures that looked gorgeous in my viiew finder but wen I go home they were all rubbish and fuzzy. It turns out that I had left it on f1.8.
So valuable lessons learnt. 1. Venture can charge £1200 because they take bloody good photos 2. I still haven't a clue what I am doing! 3. I don't think I'll forget to check my settings next time!

Anyway, here are a few I tried to salvage:

Kit 1
Canon 550D
Canon 50mm 1.8
Sigma 30mm 1.4

Re: A complete beginners 52

Week 22

Another disaster to record this week!
I decided to photograph a friends baby.
I hoped to do a load of sleeping baby poses. We lay her down asleep, she woke up immediately (well one eye woke up anyway), I snapped one shot, realised that I had my settings all wrong and that it was so dark I could barely see her. Before I had a chance to take another one she was crying and didn't stop for the next hour!!!
We are going to have another try next week but I fear she'll be too old by then for the gorgeous sleepy newborn stuff.
I have tried to salvage it in Photoshop the best I can:

Oh and she has really bad baby acne, blotchiness and cradle cap, so there was a LOT to do!

So this week's lesson - get the settings right with a doll before putting the baby down!!!

Re: A complete beginners 52

This is a gorgeous little shot, and the PP work you've done on it is just about perfect for what it is.

I love your use of composition too, not just in this shot but in most of your other pictures too. You use the rule of thirds very well, and your editing is excellent.

It's subtle when it needs to be, and strong when you want it to be.

I really do enjoy looking at your posts.

MD

ps...I'm not always a fan of your extra large borders and logo though. I don't really think you need them, as your images are strong enough on their own.
