Re: I ordered a... nifty fifty!

Well guess what! I cancelled it

But ordered the 1.4 instead

I was looking at (a LOT of) pics taken with it _and_ the d300, and I just much prefer the 1.4 pics - don't know why but it seems to work better with the d300 :-/ Bokeh seems more to my taste, and that's the main reason I wanted it.

I just know if I got the 1.8 I'd have been finding fault with it (all in the mind maybe!) and kept wondering what the 1.4 would be like. (Now I'll just think the opposite lol).

Re: I ordered a... nifty fifty!

LOL The Bokeh is definately more defined on th 1.4. Clarity wise there is little difference, this is why i stuck with the 1.8 - The Bokeh and extra stop just didnt justify the difference in price for me

Re: I ordered a... nifty fifty!

I think there is less difference on the other cams, so if I had a d200/d80/40 etc I probably would have gone with the 1.8. I don't know what they have done different with the d300, but the 1.8 doesn't look close enough to the 1.4 on it :-/

Maybe its all in my mind

Great news - another 1.4 owner

The bokeh was the main thing for me, along with the build quality

I'll dig some out this weekend (or failing that take new ones ). I don't use it an awful lot as it's not the best for the type of photography I do, but it is a good lens for portraits etc
