Springtails

Untill taking up Macro Photography i had no idea these little guys even existed. They are tiny, the Globular type are approx 1-2mm in size and the second type ive posted are approx 6 to 7mm in size. You will find them in the soil or in and amongst rotting/fallen leaves etc.

They have a spring like appendage folded up underneath them which they use to jump with, very frustrating when they disappear after youve spent ages trying to find them in the viewfinder.

The second shot is at x7 life size using a 1.4x tele converter on the MPe-65.

All are shot handheld and the last two are both focus stacked.

Re: Springtails

Amazing you even managed to find them in the viewfinder, it sound like a very trick subject to capture on memory card.

Re: Springtails

I always wanted to photograph springtails. Sadly, my ETs and 105mm macro don't manage it My husband is massively into bugs etc, so he's always finding me interestign things that are too small! XD
