Re: Its here! (Nikon D700)

Envy Envy Envy , no seriously I hope you get the photos you want with it. Big question for me is I have a lot of lenses that are for "C" sensor camera and having to get the best out of a camera like that would mean a complete swap of all the kit. That would be way out of my price range. If i used my existing gear the camera wouldn't be used to the full extent as it auto cuts down crop size to fit.

If I were to upgrade it would have to be the D300 that uses the same battery as the D200 and the kit I have would be ok with it.

Can't wait to see some pictures, not so much for the content but for the tech side of them.

Oh they will all work K but at what crop factor? surely the whole point of going FF is to maximise the full extent of the view. I think, and I stand corrected if I am wrong, that you need FF lenses to go with it to get the full benefit.

Re: Its here! (Nikon D700)

So to stop it cropping down you need FF lenses, sounds expensive

I actually have raised a question on another thread about FF DSLR against "C" sensor DSLR but that is connected with wide angle lens.

Re: Its here! (Nikon D700)

Right, my D200 has a crop factor of 1.5 this means whenever I put a lens on it - no matter which one, the focal legnth is exaggerated by that amount. So the 50mm is equal to the composition/focal legnth of a 75mm lens. On a FF camera, there is no crop factor, so a 50mm is a 50mm.

Now DX lenses are built with crop factors in mind so do not cover the full sensor on a FF camera. The camera gets around this by effectively cropping out the surplass frame but doing so, the pixels too.
