Finches, Tits & a Fieldfare.

Last few from yesterday's snowy garden shots.

Of all the birds I get coming to the feeders the Goldfinches and Chaffinches are proving to be the most difficult to photograph. There will be dozens of them but as soon as I go outside - they're off and unlike the other birds they're very reluctant to come back close enough for a detailed shot whilst I'm still outside.

Thanks Tina - I put a fair amount of food out and obviously at this time of year they get what they can when they can.

It's a Goldfinch Hali - they have very bright yellowy gold bars on their wings which aren't visible in this pic.

Re: Finches, Tits & a Fieldfare.

Thanks Phil

(the fact that you said Goldfinch in your thread should've given me a clue).

We've just started putting feeders out for the birds but with only a 200mm lens, I'm not sure I'll have too much success getting the shots (mainly chaffinches, blue tits and sparrows). The weather hasn't been too helpful recently either!

This shot is 210mm Hali.

Depending on what birds you're getting you can get the shots. Blue Tits, Siskins, Coal Tits, Great Tits all seem quite bomb proof and whilst they do fly off when you approach them - they come back quite quickly as long as you keep still or find a little spot to tuck yourself away.
