Re: Flower On Pebbles

That is a very nice, interesting and unusual shot, and I love the way it is lit.

Any hints or info on how it was lit/shot gratefully received

Re: Flower On Pebbles

Hi Gaz, and thank you for your kind comments on this photo, very much appreciated.

This was taken using one off camera flash mounted on a light stand and shooting through a white umbrella at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the subject and from the right hand side. A piece of white card was sat just to the left to bounce back some of the light and to help highlight the water on that side.

The pebbles are sitting on a Hi-Gloss black material and the background was just a simple black material. A little water was poured around the pebbles and the flower added, which also has some water droplets added with a syringe.

Camera settings:
Nikon D300 with a Nikon 105mm f2.8 G AF-S VR IF ED Micro lens
Aperture: f8
Shutter Speed: 320th of a sec (sync speed)
Spot metering, manual mode, and auto white balance.
flash used was a Nikon SB700

Thanks again Gaz
Mark

Re: Flower On Pebbles

Thank you Richard for your very kind words on this one.
As I am sure most people will know, sometimes the most simple setups can give pleasing results without much effort. I sit and do things like this when the weather is bad and I cant get out to play with my camera )

Thanks again Richard

Re: Flower On Pebbles

I keep revisiting this shot for another look. It has an odd fascination. It presents the challenge now of producing a shot in the same vein that isn't just a pastiche of this one. I will have to have a think
