Autumn then Winter here we come - can't wait !

I've really enjoyed having a go at the birdies and it's been something to do at home but at last the Summer is away and I'm chomping at the bit to get back into the old landscape photography.

Does anybody else see the end of Summer as the beginning of the best times ?

Funny- I thought of you when I wrote that.

It was 'bitter' up here today Azz.

Not silly cold which we've invariably come expect during the true winter months but that sudden shock to the system at this time of year when you step out first thing in the morning.

Re: Autumn then Winter here we come - can't wait !

It is pretty chilly around here early morning and at night, but during the day it's still pretty hot out!

I actually look forward to winter for the birds! Winter = wildfowl and waders and Autumn = rare migratory birdies!

Re: Autumn then Winter here we come - can't wait !

Fall in the Pacific Northwest is the beginning of the rainy season. This lasts for 8 months. We won't see dry weather on a regular basis again until July of 2011. It puts a real cramp in outdoor photography. The Fall folliage here is wonderful but brief. You take your chances with rain each time you venture out. I intend to use my Smart Car a great deal this Fall & Winter. I've gotten rid of my motorcycles and now only have a 250cc scooter.

Re: Autumn then Winter here we come - can't wait !

I'm looking forward to Autumn - Apart from the colours - If I want to head for the hills I don't need to leave at stupid O'Clock to be there to catch the morning light. Likewise I can catch the evening light without having to come home late at night.

Then comes the winter - It can certainly be a pain at times on the small roads but it often makes for the best images.

Re: Autumn then Winter here we come - can't wait !

I enjoy all our seasons........photography and otherwise.

I love the 'hot' summers [if only] with the windows open all over the house til late.......but I also love the cold winters curtains closed early and heating on snuggled up.

Re: Autumn then Winter here we come - can't wait !

I find the autumn and winter much nicer for my longish walks with camera. It is just too hot in summer and the light doesn't lend itself to (much) good photography from around 11-3 in the day (as Phil points out). Colours tend to be more interesting too. However it just means hoping for a good weather Saturday in the main although the way things are going at work that may not matter! The main thing that niggles me a bit is the lack of outdoor events I like to go to...reenactments, theme weekends, classic cars, street events such as carnivals, gay pride...they all happen in summer. Mind you we do have the English Defence League coming...could be a job for some reportage style scenes!

I can only imagine autumn up in the lakes, Scotland etc. must be fantastic. I was envious of a retired couple that came to speak at my (new) camera club the other day and they were doing all their work on a Leica (Panasonic) bridge camera. Quality at 12x16 was pretty good. Anyway, they just tour and park wherever in their camper van including a 2 month stay in Scotland ever year in the winter months I think. If it is the van I saw when I left the car park then you would have to be good friends to live like that but it would be a good camera accessory to buy a small winnebago!

Anyway, enough waffling...got a carpet to fit...

We're not doing 'heating' this winter! I am appalled at our bills and economies have to be made!! also going to sneak the tumble dryer to the tip when the mrs isn't looking...
