Poor hard-working Sheltie

My first picture here shows my dear Sheltie, Sushi, a tiny girl with a huge personality. She is used to modeling for my camera and is usually very good about it, but sometimes she can't really hide the boredom. Which is why I really like this shot

She looks a wee cracker - lovely shot too.

We have them in Scotland obviously but are they a common breed over there ?

Becoming more and more common, actually. Though I am not sure if that's a good thing. She doesn't look like it, but she is a bundle of energy. A non-Sheltie-like tiny 29cm and 4kg, but incredibly fast and never ever gets tired But many people see her and assume - simply because she is so tiny and looks like a "doll" - that she doesn't need much exercise, which is as far from the truth as they could get.

Some snapshots just to show you her "real" self

Re: Poor hard-working Sheltie

A right little pocket rocket by the looks of it !

The ones are know are sable without the black.

I know they can be little but 4KG surprised me - I've had heavier cats lol.

Don't mind owning up to a quick search and right enough - 5 -15 KG. Quite a range.

Re: Poor hard-working Sheltie

Yeah, different sizes and many colors - dark and gold sable, black tri, blue merle, color headed whites, red merle (in Germany those are not "approved" because of the tendency for the merle to become invisible as they grow older -> risk of unintentionally creating double merle offspring)... but my Sheltie really is one of the smallest I have ever seen or heard of. Her parents are both taller and heavier, have a much longer coat, tipped ears, straight teeth,... in short: her parents are the "ideal" Shelties, no idea why my girl decided to be different

Re: Poor hard-working Sheltie

........The joys of pedigree breeding and breed standards !

I have two lovely pet cross breeds at the moment - Pointer x Lab and Deerhound x Old English Sheepdog. The only pedigree dogs I've had / have at the momet - are English Springer Spaniels and with that comes the heated topic of 'working' against 'show'. Breed standards lean obviously toward the show strain despite those who use the dog for it's true purpose favouring slightly different characteristics.
