Re: Swimming in the bathtub!

I think that is a corker of a shot and brilliant for the family album and even maybe advertising the fact that you do kids photography. That lens is renowned for it's sharpness and seems to be standard kit for professionals doing events and weddings. I'd guess it is operating at, or very close to max aperture and of course looks sharp on the mouth. I think the shot works really well and not quite as easy some people may be thinking.

Minor observations (not that they detract from the overall aim of the shot). The point of focus appears to be the mouth and not the eyes. This might be just the eyes aren't so clear through the googles but more likely with such shallow DoF the autofocus has focussed on the closer points 2) Focus on the bath seems to get sharper as it goes away from JJ to the right and to the left which seems to indicate blurring PP around him. It maybe a DoF effect but looks a bit PP to me. 3) Not quite sure white balance is right might just prefer the white being a tad cleaner but that could be subtle differences in monitors.

These are minor observations, I think the shot is a corker and one to be very pleased with and 99% of family and friends would happily enjoy the shot for what it is. Interesting choice to use the 70-200 too but then I remembered it is on full frame.

As so many people make their kids the focus of much of their photography I realise I am at a disadvantage! Bring back workhouses I say so I can rent a couple of urchins for an hour or two.

Re: Swimming in the bathtub!

I think it could look too photoshopped with sharp eyes, in fact I would be tempted to experiment the othe way and create really misted up goggles.

Whatever it is a cracking photo, captured a real sense of fun, I'm sure I can hear him giggling like crazy

Re: Swimming in the bathtub!

Nice shot DC! And congrats on the new lens - anyone would think it's your birthday

Re the eyes, there is a trick to get eyes in focus when the subject is wearing glasses - you can either use manual focus (the obvious one) or, focus on something that is the same distance from you as the eyes, and then take the shot. So in that shot it may be the side of the face.

Re: Swimming in the bathtub!

Thanks for all the feedback - I am LOVING this lens! hehe! Azz - I had to get some good pics for JJs 4th - what's a girl to do! LOL

BC thanks for the feedback - the focal point was hard to get on his eyes as Jack was literally bopping his head up and down from the water and I couldn't focus and shoot fast enough! Haha! I had to make to do with what I had - and yes I chose a shallow DoF - You all know how I love to shoot like that On that same not the PP only went as far as the colouring - no extra blur was added

Great CC to chew on though guys! Thanks xx

Re: Swimming in the bathtub!

Well that's what it's all about and great attitude. Not intended for you personally, but for us all, 'fantastic picture' is great to hear but if there is room for improvement taht other folks can spot, then most of us are here to learn.

I thought that would be quite a difficult shot Sam as I said, often good pics look harder to achieve than people realise. Lovely pictures.
