Me trying to get to grips with Depth of Field

My first step in learning photography is the Depth of Field.
I started to add to the Depth of Field thread but didn't want to clutter it with my ramblings so I have started my own thread!
Feel free to ignore it, add to it or offer advice!

Yesterday's attempts (first ever go with a DSLR)
Small children bribed to sit still with choc ices:

smallest child finally still:

Today's effort (on the kitchen counter while small children ate their tea)

Not much point to this thread really! Just somewhere for me to record my experimenting!

Re: Me trying to get to grips with Depth of Field

Started to have a try with a sunflower and throwing the background out of focus:

but my glamorous assistant had other ideas!

Re: Me trying to get to grips with Depth of Field

and some more experimenting today.

Had a go with some flowers in my dads garden today.
I wanted the flower (and bee) in focus and the kids fuzzy in the background.
Managed the fuzzy bit and nearly had the flower in focus!

Then a Harley parked up next door!!
I know you aren't supposed to be in your own pictures but I thought it was quite fun!
I got the spokes a bit fuzzy and the centre of the wheel just about in focus.
I deliberately overdid the contrast in photoshop as I thought it added to the abstract nature of the shot.
