Forgot to say, the Nikons now come with a 2 year warranty!
I use this site for quick price comparisons: camerapricebuster.co.uk but be sure to check the shop is selling a UK model, and not an import (as the import ones don't come with a manufacturers warranty).
Jackbox - they are an ideal first DSLR I am over the moon with mine, plus the price is fantastic, esp as the kit lens is very good.
They may even bring out an updated model next year - although the price will be higher I guess..

Why not wait for birthdays and Christmas to pass - and then tot up your savings - if you let us know the size of the budget - I'm sure we'll get to recommend a number of options that'll suit your spend....

I worked out my finances, and took buying Christmas pressies into consideration and by Christmas I should have been able save up at least £250, then I'll have my Birthday & Christmas money, so you lot will be able to have more than the basic money to advise me what to spend it on

Hiya!
I'm another Nikon D40 user and it's my first DSLR too. At first I was terrified of it, but now I love it to bits and know I would have seriously regretted not getting it! It's really user-friendly I think and feels nice too. I got a 55-200mm lens with mine too, as well as the kit lens which is well worth getting
